2002, AUGUST

Corgi Hosiery, a family-run company founded in Ammanford in 1893, has won the UK Fashion Award for Exports. This prestigious award was presented to them in London by Princess Anne this August.
The company makes a range of knitwear and hosiery for the upper end of the market and exported around £700,000 worth of goods last year.

Their main market is Japan, followed by America and Europe, and they exported to Russia for the first time last year. Managing Director Huw Jones was thrilled by the award, having beaten off competition from throughout the UK. "My son and daughter are very much part of the company – Chris is Production Director and Lisa is Design Director," said Mr Jones. "I was delighted to see their efforts rewarded by this award, together with those of all our 40 staff here in Wales". Corgi Hosiery has received support from Wales Trade International and has just been allocated support to investigate new markets in Japan and the USA. Princess Anne presented the award to Production Director Chris Jones.
